In the monthly meething on March 13th (Friday), 2015, the 102 year Annual merit Medal for police was awarded to 13 faculty led by General Commander, Huo Chun-Heng, and the former president, Yan Shih-Hsi, delivered a speech named “ My Experience for being a Police Officer”.
President Yan used his own example. He talked about his self-study for TOFEL, which laid the foundation of his career. He met many benefacors and had learned much art of leadership from them during his 46 years of being a police officer. Because of his outstanding work, he was deeply appreciated by his superiors, and often received impromptu tasks, challenging difficult missions over and over again.
Yan mentioned “reformation must come with resistance” in his speech. He took the conversion of Police Academy into the police university as one example. At that time, he encountered a lot of resistances; however, he had thrived stronger and stronger after each resistance. With the belief of never giving up, it took him 7 years to complete the restructuring of the school. After he transferred as the president, he founded the Forensic Science Department, and built the first indoor shooting range in our country.
Yan didn’t change his usual humorous style during the talk; he not only shared his career experiences in a simple way, but also made a deep impression on the whole school by describing his main experience vividly. At the end of the lecture, Yan encouraged students to make good use of school resources, reserve energy for future working, and work for country and society.
